Chris "Chachi" Farrington and his wife Krista are missionaries in Nicaragua. After Chachi received his Masters of Divinity Degree from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in 2005, he and Krista moved to Nicaragua to work full time for Open Hearts, a ministry founded by Krista's family.

Club Esperanza evolved from Colegio Cristiano La Esperanza, an elementary school for children that lived in the Managua city dump, which was established by Open Hearts. When the Nicaraguan government moved the residents out of the dump, it demolished the school. Open Hearts was blessed to find a building adjacent to the relocated community where it could continue its mission, but it did not have funds for re-establishing an elementary school. Instead, it established Club Esperanza to provide preschool classes, tutoring for elementary students, a club for teenagers, a La Crosse team, and art and music activities, as well as two meals each day. It has recently begun to add elementary classes, one each year. In 2021 it will offer classes for grades 1 through 5.

Austin Samaritans provides funding and supplies for Club Esperanza. In addition, its mission teams under do projects such as creating a computer lab, installing ceiling fans, and installing an elevated water tank.
