Beginning at the start of 2025, Austin Samaritans expanded financial support to add a dental assistant to the dental care practice at Clinica El Samaritano in Managua’s Nejapa neighborhood. During our December 2023 mission trip, visiting dentist Dr. Russel McFarlane noticed that the capacity of the clinic was constrained by the requirement that each and every step of treatment had to be performed by the clinic’s sole dentist. Beginning with a challenge and discussions at the 2024 Spring Dinner, Dr. McFarlane and the staff at El Samaritano Clinic determined that adding a dental assistant would be a cost-effective way to expand the dental clinic’s capacity. The board determined that the investment was worthy of funding.
