2009 International Conference on Breast and Cervical Cancers in Nicaraguan Women
University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital
Clinical Education Center, Rm 115
400 North IH 35
Austin, Texas
January 7-8, 2009
Presented by Austin Samaritans
Overview
For a lack of gynecology care, cervical cancer is the primary cause of death in Nicaraguan women aged 30 to 60. This tragedy of needless death reverberates through families as women are primary caregivers. Austin Samaritans works with the Gynecology Residency Training Program at Hospital Bertha Calderon in Managua to train doctors, nurses and other health care personnel to screen for early lesions when treatment is most effective.
Who should attend?
Health care professionals and others with interest in women’s health issues, international public health, or cancer care.
Conference attendees will have the opportunity to hear from dedicated physicians and public health workers who have come together to improve the overall health of Nicaraguan women by addressing the extraordinary death rate due to breast and cervical cancers. In a time when cervical cancer is almost totally preventable, it is the single largest contributor to morbidity and mortality in women aged 30 - 60 in Nicaragua.
