TCMS Spotlights Doty

The Travis County Medical Society spotlighted Austin Samaritans' Founder and Executive Director, Dr. John Doty in their summer newsletter.

In the article, which is distributed to thousands of Central Texas physicians, Dr. Doty recounts the historical backdrop that led to the formation of Austin Samaritans in 2007. Dr. Doty explains the reasons why he stepped away from his oncology practice to lend his full-time efforts to Austin Samaritans.

Nicaragua 2008.2

In October, 2008 Austin Samaritans and friends visited Nicaragua. During the visit, they visited Villa Esperanza and the group home within Villa Esperanza built with funds from Austin Samaritans donors.

We also visited Mercado Oriental -- the feeding program run by Rev. Matthew Jun, and The El Samaritano surgical center.

Work Day 2008

With the Austin Samaritans warehouse prepared for receving supplies, we welcomed enthusiastic volunteers on May 3, 2008

One set of volunteers helped prepare a shipment of medical supplies bound for Nigaragua later this summer. Other volunteers helped to off-load, categorize, and organize many generous donations, while still others installed computer network cabling.

In March 2008, Austin Samaritans and friends visit The El Samaritano Schools and clinics near La Chureca, the Managua city dump.

Residents receive medical attention, clinics are given medical equipment, and schoolchildren recieve much needed supplies.
